Through the generous support of the Immanuel Foundation, we have the use of a wheelchair accessible van and bus for the transportation needs of the residents.
The larger vehicle is used by the recreation therapy staff to take residents shopping, out to eat, and to special events such as the annual car show, a Royals baseball game, or fishing. These activities are part of the recreation therapy program and there is no charge for the transportation. There may be an individual expense for an activity such as shopping or meals.
The transportation staff manages the van for the medical appointments of the short-term and long-term patients. Working closely with the nursing staff to identify individual appointment needs, the transportation staff schedules the appointments and identifies escort needs. Our drivers take the IFH patients to a variety of appointments throughout Omaha, averaging close to 500 miles weekly in medical appointment transportation. There is a fee for use of the van for appointments and an additional fee if a staff escort is needed should family not be available to attend the appointment.
