The Alegent Health Joint Replacement Center has been recognized as a center of excellence and serves as a model for facilities around the world looking to establish a similar program.
What is the Joint Replacement Center?
The joint replacement center is a special unit of the hospital dedicated to the care of total knee and total hip replacement patients. It is a unique program where patients who come to any of the Joint Replacement Centers receive total joint replacements in an environment that emphasizes wellness, socialization and maximizes patient recovery efforts.
The Joint Replacement Center places great emphasis on patient education through videos and written materials, strong family involvement, positive reinforcement and group support of the patients.
During their stay at the Joint Replacement Center, patients enjoy group meals, group activities and other social interaction. They even attend group exercise class each day which creates an atmosphere of teamwork, encouragement and camaraderie among the patients. This type of group therapy is often referred to as "joint replacement center" participation.
At Alegent Health Joint Replacement Center, our goal is to return patients to a more normal, healthy lifestyle as soon as possible. The physicians affiliated with the Joint Replacement Centers share this common vision and dedication to delivering quality care and service excellence.
The Joint Replacement Center Team
The Joint Replacement Center team includes specially trained and experience board certified orthopedic surgeons, nurses, orthopedic technicians, and physical and occupational therapists specializing in total joint care. Every detail, from pre-operative teaching to post-operative exercising, is reviewed with the patient. The Joint Care manager plans each patient's individual treatment program and guides each patient through the recovery process.
Home Care
Most patients return home immediately after their stay at the Joint Replacement Center, and may be referred to Alegent Health Home Care or a transitional care unit, with each patient’s specific needs considered, including nursing, home health aides, and physical and occupational therapy.
Physical Therapy
Following surgery and dismissal, patients are given detailed information and instructions for home exercises. To help make a smooth transition back to a more normal level of activity, some may be referred to an Alegent Health Physical Therapy Clinic.
On The Road To Recovery
Joint replacement has helped many sufferers of osteoarthritis achieve a better quality of life, free from pain. Today, more than 400,000 total knee and total hip replacement surgeries are performed annually in the United States. The decision to have any type of surgery can be difficult and should be discussed with both your physician and family.
