Purpose Statement
The purpose of this Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) residency training program is to provide organized and directed pharmacy training in a community hospital setting. The program centers on creating a caring and compassionate environment that promotes respect and dignity for every person.
Candidate Requirements:
- The candidate must possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree awarded from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.
- The candidate must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Nebraska.
- It is strongly encouraged that the candidate be a member of the American Society of Health- System Pharmacists and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
Submit your application using the PhORCAS online application. The following materials are required to apply for an on-site interview.

- College Transcripts
- Three letters of reference along with an Alegent Creighton Health residency recommendation form must be completed by each letter author.

- Adult Critical Care
- Oncology/Hematology
- Cardiology
- Neonatal Critical Care
- Practice Management
Longitudinal Required Rotations Include:
- Ambulatory Care – Anticoagulation Clinic
- Drug Information/Drug Policy
- Staffing
Potential Elective Rotations
- Ambulatory Care
- Drug Information
- Infectious Disease
- Internal Medicine
- Endocrine
- Medical/Surgical
- Nephrology
- Psychiatry
- Pulmonology
- Surgery Satellite
Additional months of required rotations also may be taken.
Residency Opportunities
- Provision of Drug Information related to patient care and prospective therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure provision of safe, efficacious, and cost effective pharmacotherapy to Alegent Creighton Health patients.
- Gain hands on Pharmaceutical Care experience as a vital team member of the decentralized acute care services at Alegent Creighton Health’s Bergan Mercy Medical Center.
- Staffing as a clinical pharmacist on weeknights and weekends in the Inpatient Pharmacy, and biweekly in the Anticoagulation Clinic.
- Teaching opportunities are available with didactic lectures, grand rounds presentations, and precepting Pharm.D. students on clinical rotations.
- Optional value-added programs are available through the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions including a Teaching Certificate Program, Reflection Practitioner & Ignation Values seminars, and Advanced Critical Care Therapeutics.

Bergan Mercy Medical Center is a 400-bed tertiary care community hospital which is part of the Alegent Creighton Health hospital system in Omaha, NE. Bergan Mercy has a teaching and research affiliation with Creighton University and has decentralized clinical pharmacists available to all care units.
Clinical pharmacy functions include pharmacokinetic monitoring and dosing, multidisciplinary care team rounding, antimicrobial stewardship, anticoagulation monitoring and management, drug information and overall pharmacotherapy monitoring and dosing.
