Recreation Therapy is an activity-based program designed to improve or
maintain the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and/or social functioning
of our residents. We assist them in expressing individual lifestyles, through
building on past interests and developing new experiences during their stay
at Immanuel Fontenelle. Therapeutic Recreation is an integral part of Alegent
Health's higher standard of care.
Residents, families, volunteers and staff join our therapeutic recreation
staff in a variety of activities developed around the interests, hopes and
dreams of each resident. Activities are planned for each neighborhood and for
the entire building to enjoy.
Immanuel Fontenelle recreation therapists are either certified in activities
or licensed recreation therapists. This enthusiastic team leads our community in
developing understanding, relationships and FUN.
Annual events such as the Fathers Day weekend car show and cookout, barbecues
in the courtyard, fishing trips, the Qwest Center car show, and Christmas lights
tours only hint at the expanse of activities occurring in the community
throughout the year. Casino outings, movies, meals out to restaurants or catered
in, regular visits by therapy dogs, frequent musical entertainment from
different community organizations such as The Merrymakers or individuals who
care to share their musical interests and talents - these are part of the
activities at Immanuel Fontenelle.
With the help of recreation therapy, the residents at Immanuel Fontenelle
remain involved in the outside world. The residents can connect with family and
friends via the Internet. They have actively participated in efforts on behalf
of Relay For Life, Eden, the Food Bank and the Immanuel Hospitality House.
Intergenerational activities spark a strong response from the residents. They
have enjoyed the Halloween trick or treating of family members and employees
children, they have shared life experiences with high school students and they
listen as new readers practice their talents. The residents enjoy regular visits
from the little ones at the Center.
Included in the comprehensive care of every resident is an individualized
therapeutic recreation program designed to meet a wide spectrum of needs and
skill levels, from active leisure lifestyles to sensory stimulation. At Immanuel
Fontenelle we provide a wide variety of groups, as well as individual, therapeutic
interventions to meet our resident's many needs. They include:

Successful experiences are created through adaptations
to meet the strengths and or limitation so each resident. Small and large group
of people with similar interest and abilities are offered programs to create a
non-threatening environment and promote social well being.
