As senior vice president and chief quality officer, Richard Miller, D.O., leads initiatives to maintain quality as an integral part of the culture of Alegent Creighton Health, the largest faith-based, not-for-profit health care system in Nebraska and southwest Iowa.
Prior to joining Alegent Creighton Health, Dr. Miller served as the medical director of Collaboration on Quality for Wellmark, Inc., in Des Moines, Iowa (2007-2010). He focused on connecting providers with collaborative and analytic tools that helped to identify health risk, promote best practices and improve patient care. At Avera Health System in Sioux Falls, S.D., Dr. Miller served as a chief medical officer and developed an operational quality experience in implementing a clinical quality improvement process (2003-2006). His experience as vice president of medical affairs for Adirondack Medical Center, N.Y., (2002-2003) was supplemented by roles as consultant for clinical quality and education for The Institute for Healthcare Quality Research and Education in Knoxville, Tenn., (2001-2002), senior medical director for Medical Policy for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee in Chattanooga (1997-2001) and as a family practice physician at Mercy Medical Clinics, Inc., in Des Moines (1986-1997). Dr. Miller also previously served as a Senate Health Policy Fellow with Sen. Edward Kennedy, U.S. Senate, Washington, D.C., in 1997.
Dr. Miller earned his medical degree as a doctor of osteopathy from Des Moines University in 1983 and completed a family practice residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He holds a master’s in health administration from the University of Colorado in Denver.
