Supportive Therapies
The Alegent Creighton Health Back & Spine Institute offers a unique approach to back pain. That means when it comes to caring for your back, we have treatment options that are perfectly customized to your unique situation. In addition to traditional treatments such as physical therapy, medications and even complex spine surgery, we also have a holistic approach to treating back pain that includes a variety of complementary services.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture restores and maintains health through the stimulation of specific points on the body. The acupuncture technique involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation. Acupuncture used to treat back pain is performed by certified/licensed physicians who have a specialized interest in this form of treatment. By personal appointment
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy utilizes the buoyancy of water to reduce stress on the spine and lower extremity joints.
Personal Aquatic Therapy
One-on-one sessions with a physical therapist in the warm water pool. Frequency and duration of sessions are dependent on individual’s treatment plan.
Requires physician referral By personal appointment
Low Back Class Led by a personal trainer, this progressive small group class is designed to emphasize low back stretching and strengthening, as well as core stabilization.
Four-week small group class No experience required
Therapeutic Massage
Known as a restorative therapy that provides many health benefits, therapeutic massage is performed by applying deep or light pressure to the musculoskeletal system for the purpose of muscle relaxation. Our massage therapists are specially trained in therapeutic back massages and utilize a variety of styles and techniques to address your specific back pain.
By personal appointment
Bowen Therapy
This holistic modality addresses a host of conditions, including back pain. Described as a gentle and effective manual therapy, each session is designed to balance tensions in the body. While the individual is fully clothed, the therapist makes moves on precise points along the back. Following each procedure a period of resting allows for a relaxation response in the nervous system. In order to achieve optimum results, there are specific practices to focus on both five days prior and five day following a session. Many people experience results after only one or a few sessions.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle yoga uses props to encourage a deep state of relaxation. By supporting various parts of your body during this complementary therapy, you can completely relax. Gentle yoga is designed to help relieve the effects of chronic stress and move the spine to promote healing. You will learn yoga postures, proper breathing and balance, all of which help reverse the effects of gravity and return fluids to the upper body.
60-minute group class No experience required
Mat Pilates
Pilates seeks to increase the flexibility and control of the body and is designed to strengthen the whole body without undue strain or injury. This class focuses on strength, balance and flexibility.
60-minute no-impact work-out Must complete Mat Pilates Essentials sessions prior to enrollment in Mat Pilates
