Jeffrey S. Carstens, M.D.

Dr. Carstens grew up in Omaha where he attended Westside High School. He then attended Creighton University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, graduating magna cum laude. Following this, he attended Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Carstens completed a three-year internal medicine residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego after which he spent one year as Chief of Residents. He remained in San Diego where he completed a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the Naval Medical Center, along with specialized training in Interventional Cardiology at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. For the next two years he served as a staff cardiologist at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California. Dr. Carstens returned to Omaha in 1999 to practice cardiology. He has had an active practice since that time and has served as the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories at both Midlands Hospital, and subsequently the Nebraska Medical Center. In 2008, he became a founding member of Alegent Health Clinic Heart and Vascular Specialists.

Dr. Carstens practices general cardiology that includes office- and hospital-based consultations and performs diagnostic tests such as echocardiography, stress testing, coronary angiography, and coronary intervention including stent placement. He is board certified in both cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology. He has completed additional training and certification in CT coronary angiography. Dr. Carstens has participated in numerous clinical research trials over the years including trials for lipid management, hypertension, heart failure, and trials of newer types of stents. Dr. Carstens is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and has membership in the Nebraska Medical Association and the Metro Omaha Medical Society. He is married with two children. His interests include running, travel, and music.
