Eric Van De Graaff, M.D.

Dr. Van De Graaff grew up in Orem, Utah and attended nearby Brigham Young University, where his father was a professor of human anatomy. After receiving a bachelor' s degree in German he moved 40 miles north to Salt Lake City for a medical degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine. While there he spent a year as the chief editor of the medical school journal Eklektikos and served as the student body president. He completed a three-year internal medicine residency at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City after which he transitioned to active duty with United States Air Force, serving two years as an internal medicine specialist at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas. Dr. Van De Graaff commenced a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where his specialized training included diagnostic nuclear cardiology and device therapy for heart rhythm conditions. For the next three years he served as a staff cardiologist at Wright Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, and an assistant professor of medicine at nearby Wright State University where he participated in several research studies relating to heart failure, stroke, and the treatment of high cholesterol. He was a primary investigator for the landmark SCD-HeFT trial, a study of defibrillators in patients with congestive heart failure. From late 2003 to 2004 he served as an intensive care specialist at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany where he cared for the seriously injured troops from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. Upon leaving the Air Force in 2004 Dr. Van De Graaff joined Nebraska Heart Institute in Omaha and in 2008 transitioned to the Heart and Vascular Specialists at Alegent Health Clinic.

Dr. Van De Graaff practices general cardiology that includes office- and hospital-based consultations and performs diagnostic tests such as echocardiography, stress testing, and coronary angiography. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases and has completed additional training and certification in CT coronary angiography and nuclear cardiology. He is a testamur of the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRExam) and specializes in the implantation and management of pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICDs) and cardiac resynchronization devices. Dr. Van De Graaff is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and has membership in the American Heart Association, the Nebraska Medical Association and the Metro Omaha Medical Society. He is married with a daughter in grade school. His interests include cycling, running, travel, music, and spending time with his family.
