Dr. Zhao earned his medical degree from Fujian Medical University in Fuzhou, China, in 1992. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Fujian Provincial Hospital in 1997 and a family medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in 2012. He also conducted research in the Department of Ophthalmology, Pathology and Internal Medicine at UNMC from October 1997-February 2009..
Dr. Zhao is board eligible for the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, given presentations on the differences in medical education between the United States and China, and held a teaching position for medical school and nursing students at Fujian Provincial Hospital. .
