April-

When thinking of April, I think of warmth, winds and rain with glimpses of the spring sprouting up all around: grass greening beautifully, flowers springing up, trees that looked so forlorn are giving forth new life.

This year April brings us our greatest cause to rejoice, Easter, a time of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the gift of our own salvation.  In a world that is hurting with war, random acts of violence, financial concerns and so much more its easy to feel that that God may have given up on us. When the pain that is all around us is compounded by such things as personal pain, illness, fear or anxiety it is even easier to feel like God is a distant God.

Thankfully, remembering the circumstances of Jesus’ death and resurrection, brings reassurance.  The political environment at the time of Jesus’ death was certainly very turbulent.  People were hurting and there was much anger and fear.   God sent Jesus into the midst of that pain.  This was no distant message hinting at God’s love.  His love was sent into the midst of the pain to love, to teach, to guide and then grant eternal life for all believers forever.

As St. Augustine said; “God loves each of us as if there is only one of us.”  The gift of our salvation certainly shows that truth.

May your Easter celebration be an especially meaningful time of reminding yourself of God’s love for you.

Today I pray…

Today I pray for

the courage to face the challenges that come my way.

Today I pray for

the compassion to understand the fears and joys of those around me.

Today I pray for

the awareness to see…to really see… all that is in my surroundings.

Today I pray for

the strength to move towards that which I am seeking.

Today I pray for

the peace that I long to hold in my heart.

Today I pray for

the gentleness that will help me be present to others.

Today I pray for

the love that God has to give me.

Today I pray.

Amen
