Under the supervision of a Mayo Clinic-Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist
(CTTS), you will benefit from individually tailored, one-hour sessions or group
counseling, an eight week, one-hour session program. There will be long-term
follow-up calls to prevent relapse and help you stay tobacco-free.
Tobacco Free U Individual and Group Counseling
Individual Counseling
The tobacco treatment specialist will tailor a quit plan for you on day one. Together, we
will work on strategies to prepare for the big day. Topics discussed are the following:
- Patient Centered Method (taking into account the patient’s perspective on
making changes)
- Identifying SMART goals
- Maintaining tobacco cessation through coping and behavior modification
- Developing a relapse prevention plan
- Weight management
- Increasing physical activity
- Stress reduction and relaxation techniques
Group Counseling
“Freedom From Smoking,” is a tobacco cessation clinic, developed by the
American Lung Association. The clinic meets once a week for eight weeks. A tobacco
treatment specialist will facilitate the program. Some of the topics covered
in this program are:
- Knowing if you’re ready to quit
- Medicines to help you quit tobacco use
- Lifestyle changes
- Preparing for Quit Day
- Coping strategies/developing a new self-image
- How to stay tobacco free for good
