Cough drops in the candy dish. Kleenex boxes on the counter. A sound track of sneezing and sniffling in the office.
Yep, it's cold season. The perfect excuse to skip the gym and crawl into bed, right? Not necessarily.
With a few exceptions, exercise benefits those who have come down with a cold.
Working out opens your lungs, improves breathing and even helps with sinus congestion. So mild symptoms above the neck - i.e., stuffy nose, scratchy throat, congestion - shouldn't throw off your work out schedule.
"If you're feeling blah, go work out. Just don't push as hard," said Dr. Carlos Prendes, a family physician with Alegent Health Clinic in Millard. In fact, he added, "If you work out regularly, you're probably going to feel worse if you don't."
