Two studies in the New England Journal of Medicine have found that weight loss operations work better than the standard treatments to control Type 2 diabetes in obese and overweight people.
Meet Joette Reid, she suffered from diabetes for six years. In 2010, she had bariatric surgery at Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center. Since her surgery, she's lost nearly 120 pounds and no longer needs insulin.
Bariatric surgeon, Dr. Thomas White, performed Reid's surgery and says that "the affects are very immediate and can be very pronounced."
