In April, two people from Alegent Health joined a handful of Americans in Haiti. Alegent Health Clinic’s Ryan Isherwood, M.D., and Kim Jorgensen, surgical tech at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, cared for people at a mission clinic in a village outside of Port-au-Prince.

Dr. Ryan Isherwood has intended to work abroad for some time. The family physician at the Alegent Health Clinic in Gretna said he just didn't have the opportunity . . . until last fall.

In November, through a friend, Isherwood was asked to accompany a group of medical professionals to Haiti for a week.

"I immediately said yes before I talked to the guy," Isherwood said.
