Imagine waking up in your downtown Omaha apartment and taking a short elevator ride to get a flu shot or a prescription refill.
Healthcare will become just that convenient next year for residents who move into the Barker Building, 15th and Farnam streets, because the historic building will also be home to a new Alegent Creighton Clinic and pharmacy.
>p>More than 40,000 workers spend their days in the downtown area, but it was the increasing growth of the residential population that prompted ACC leaders to start considering another clinic location downtown, according to Tony Hatcher, D.O., medical director of strategy and growth for Alegent Creighton Clinic.
“The new clinic location in the Barker Building will expand the access to healthcare for individuals who live and work downtown,” said Dr. Hatcher. “This clinic will complement our existing ACC locations in the area.”
The clinic location in the Barker Building will be staffed by a mid-level provider, have extended hours and accept patients by walk-in and appointment. The clinic will also offer a retail pharmacy to serve the downtown community.
“Many individuals who work in the downtown area have an established relationship with a primary care physician in their neighborhood, but often need access to healthcare, vaccinations or lab services while at work,” said Dr. Hatcher. “The clinic located in the Barker Building will provide a secondary option for patients to receive these types of services.”
Renovation of the 48-apartment Barker Building, built in 1929, is expected to be completed by summer 2013.
