The only thing better than seeing Santa in person is watching his magic happen right in front of your eyes. Hundreds of children in Omaha got to experience just that on Sunday, December 16, 2012, when Santa and Mrs. Claus flew by LifeNet helicopter to Alegent Creighton Health Immanuel Medical Center. The children watched the skies waiting to hear the sound of Helicopters – one little boy came to Immanuel Medical Center equipped with his binoculars. He wasn't going to miss a single moment. Either was a patient, who came down to the lobby just to shake Santa's hand.
The children crowded Santa asking questions. Child after child at IMC told Santa, they wanted snow for Christmas. "I do too, buddy," Santa told him with a wink and smile. As the children left Immanuel Medical Center they got their wish – snow, gently falling over the city. "Look, mom!" said a nine year old boy, "It's snowing! Santa made it snow. He really is magic!"
At Bergan Mercy Medical Center, the children stood patiently in line waiting for Santa and Mrs. Claus' arrival. But the snow forced a change in plans. The helicopter couldn't land so Santa and Mrs. Claus got a tour of Omaha on the ground. "It is a lovely city," said Mrs. Claus, "one of my favorites."
One by one, the children told Santa their secret Christmas wishes ranging from anything starting with an "i" (iPad, iPod, iPhone) to Barbies, Lightening McQueen, a talking train and a puppy. A team from Alegent Creighton Health Communications and Public Relations took photos of the children with Santa, which can be downloaded by clicking on the photos above.
"Thank you so much for doing this," said one mother. "It's just wonderful."
The snow may have kept Santa and Mrs. Claus on the ground, but it provided the perfect backdrop for an afternoon of hugs, smiles, sweets and Santa with his charming Mrs.Claus.
