Council Bluffs, Iowa - The 2013 Heritage Awards honor individuals from southwest Iowa for their professional and personal contributions to the community. The event, now in its 30th year, will be hosted by Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital on Saturday, March 23, at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. Four individuals have been chosen to be honored this year.
Nominations for the awards were made this past fall and will be presented to the following individuals who excel in the following four areas:
Arts and Humanities – Margarite Goodenow
Business – the late Doris Heineman
Education – Father Paul Monahan
Health and Human Services – Charles Pigneri, D.O.
The Heritage Awards were created to celebrate and pay homage to those who have enriched the community and established a legacy on which future Heritage Award honorees can build. Each year, a committee of community leaders and Mercy Hospital staff coordinate the event. Proceeds from the event support professional development opportunities for Mercy Hospital employees.
Chairing this year's event are Robin and Curtis Boeck, M.D., and co-chairs are Jane and James Whalen, M.D. For the second year, Ming Wang will serve as the event’s presenting sponsor.
The gala evening at the Mid-America Center begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a gourmet meal and the recognition program.
