Therapy pool reaches new heights
Article Date: Oct 16, 2013

A state-of-the-art warm-water therapy pool at Alegent Creighton Health Immanuel Medical Center is helping rehabilitation patients with various limitations.

Jeanie Navrkal uses the pool for daily physical therapy treatments after having surgery on her knee.

"As long as you keep moving, the resistance buoys you up. You can do things in the water you could never do on land," Navrkal said.

But it isn’t your typical pool. The floor actually moves up and down to adjust the water depth.

"It's a really unique floor. This is probably one of the very few in North America that's got a movable bottom," said Lee Grigsby, an aquatic team leader.

The pool was built by German designers in 2010. Grigsby said the 55-by-44-foot pool has unlimited potential, even treating patients who use wheelchairs.

"We can actually raise the bottom of the pool up to the level of the deck, have them wheeled out onto the floor and lower them down just like an elevator down into the pool," Grigsby said.

The therapy pool is open to the public. For more information, visit 402-572-2288 or visit the click here.

I love what they're doing with nowadays! I think it's a great way for people that need that low-impact environment to work back up or to work on exercises without too much pain. Heck, I would probably use it if there was one in our area. It's a great idea and I'm glad that Alegent got a great new pool!
