Council Bluffs, IA - The 2014 Heritage Awards honor individuals from southwest Iowa for their professional and personal contributions to the community. Individuals in four categories have been chosen to be honored at an event hosted by Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital on Saturday, March 22, at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.

Nominations for the awards were made this past fall and will be presented to the following individuals who excel in the following four areas:

Arts and Humanities – Dan & Martha Peterson
Business – Jane Bell
Education – Marsha Grandick
Health and Human Services – Charles E. Lakin

The Heritage Awards were created to celebrate and pay homage to those who have enriched the community and established a legacy on which future Heritage Award honorees can build. Each year, a committee of community leaders and Mercy Hospital staff coordinate the event. Proceeds from the event support professional development opportunities for Mercy Hospital employees.

Chairing this year's event are Jane and Jim Whalen, M.D. and co-chairs are Cordie and Alan Fisher, M.D. Members of the social committee are: Barb and Barry Kricsfeld, M.D. and Heather and Barclay Monaster, M.D. For the third year, Ming Wang will serve as the event's presenting sponsor.

The gala evening at the Mid-America Center begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a gourmet meal, recognition program and post-event celebration. For more information regarding the 2014 Heritage Awards Dinner or for tickets to the event, please contact Christine Gochenour at christine.gochenour@alegent.org or (712) 328-5141 by March 14th.

Congratulations to all of you winners. Marsha Grandick especially good work on education, you I think have made the greatest difference. Personally I would also like to thank Charles E. Lakin for your additions to the team. You are all truly amazing.
