OMAHA, Neb. – It’s one of the highest levels of recognition a hospital can receive. Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital has achieved Magnet recognition for excellence in clinical services by the American Nurses Credential Center’s (ANCC) Magnet™ Recognition Program®.
“Magnet recognition is a tremendous achievement for Lakeside Hospital,” says Karen Sweeney, RN, MSN, chief nursing executive at Lakeside Hospital. “It simply recognizes the excellent work our clinicians do each day and reflects the commitment of our entire staff to serve as a team, providing the highest quality care possible for the people of our community.”
The Magnet Recognition Program honors health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and adherence to national standards for the organization and delivery of care. The Lakeside Hospital staff underwent a rigorous evaluation that included extensive interviews and a review of clinical services. Research shows there are clear benefits to hospitals that are awarded Magnet status and to the communities they serve:
Benefits of a Magnet hospital:
Patients can rest easy knowing the hospital’s overall quality has achieved the level of excellence established by the Magnet Recognition Program.
Magnet-designated facilities consistently outperform other health care systems in recruiting and retaining nurses resulting in increased stability in patient care and patient satisfaction.
Because quality clinical care is one of the most important factors in enlisting world-class physicians and specialists, Magnet status becomes an attractive force that extends to the entire facility.
“Only five percent of the hospitals in the nation have Magnet designation and we are now one in that elite group,” Sweeney said. “This is the beginning, not the end. We will continue to be innovative leaders and try to raise the bar on patient care in our area.”
Lakeside Hospital joins Mercy Hospital as the second in the Alegent Health system to earn Magnet status. Mercy Hospital earned the title in 2005.
Alegent Health’s focus on patient-centered care, along with its mission to care for the body, mind and spirit of all patients, allows healthcare professionals across the system to have a positive impact on patients’ outcomes. In 2008, Alegent Health was ranked number one in the nation among 121 health care systems in the areas of quality and patient experience.
ANCC is the largest and most prominent nursing credentialing organization in the United States. Lakeside Hospital’s Magnet status is valid for four years.
