An arthrogram is a radiographic exam of a joint following an injection of air, a contrast medium (X-ray dye), or both into a joint space. Arthrograms can be done on any joints, but the most common areas are shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles.
The athrogram is performed to ensure that a shoulder or hip injection, to help alleviate pain, is properly placed.
