Healthy eating and nutrition play a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and preventing or recovering from illness. Alegent Health Medical Nutrition Management provides complete nutrition counseling services for inviduals of all ages, physical conditions and lifestyles.

Lifestyle-based nutrition counseling

  • Gestational Diabetes (diabetes with pregnancy)

  • Weight management (in a preventive mode)
  • Pre-pregnancy health
  • Food selections for toddlers and young children to encourage a healthy diet

Nutrition counseling for your medical condition

We provide evidence-based nutrition management for:
  • Cancer (preventive and after diagnosis)
  • Renal disease
  • Celiac disease
  • Multiple allergies
  • Failure to thrive
  • Cardiac disease (preventive and after diagnosis)
  • Liver disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or acid reflux
  • and other nutrition concerns that are not necessarily diagnosis-related, as requested.

Questions you may have

Are your services covered by Medicare?
Diabetes management is covered by Medicare but other areas of nutrition education are not.You should contact your insurance provider to determine if nutrition education is covered.

How do I prepare for my visit with the dietitian?
Keep a food diary. The registered dietitian will ask you about what you normally eat and discuss favorite foods and your usual type of preparation, work schedules, home activities, dining out, exercise, time commitments and anything else that could affect your eating habits. We'll help you make changes and set realistic goals.

Should I bring my medications?
We'll review your medications and dosages to determine if there are any concerns with dietary changes or practices.

Do you do recipe modification? Should I bring a list of my favorites along to my consultation?
Recipe modification is an option and guidelines can be provided so you can review any of your recipes and decide what changes should be made We can help you set guidelines for shopping for healthy foods.
