A Program Leader is someone who carries out a health-related program in their congregation. They have a passion for health and wellness! The programs we support are built upon evidence-based research, and can be part of a larger Health Ministry or stand on their own. We will provide training at no cost to plan, develop, carry out, and evaluate any of the following programs:
Living Well Leader Training
Offered in collaboration with the NE Department of Health and Human Services, is a research-based chronic disease self-management program. Leaders (who can be lay or professional) will facilitate workshops to empower those with chronic conditions to make healthier choices. Workshop participants can experience fewer emergency room visits and hospitalizations, feel better able to make decisions regarding their health, have less pain, etc. Leaders will offer two 6-week workshops the first year, and at least one per year thereafter to remain certified.
Tai Chi Leader Training
Offered in collaboration with Omaha's Friendship Program, Inc.,it imparts skills needed to lead Tai Chi classes in congregations and elsewhere. Tai Chi has been shown to reduce falls and helps improve health in other areas. We provide partial scholarships for health professionals who join our network at a program or higher level. Leaders will offer two 12-week sessions per year to remain certified. Training is on an individual basis.
Road to Health Leader Training (Diabetes Toolkit)
This training provides skills to utilize a toolkit of information to share in your congregation/community, that will encourage healthier lifestyle choices to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Leaders can be lay or professional persons. No charge.
Walking or Physical Activity Program Leader Training
Research shows we should aim for 150 minutes of physical activity a week –even more for kids–to promote health. We have several physical activity programs you can offer in your congregation/community. Training is offered on an individual basis at no charge. Contact us!
