Community Benefit

Dear Friend,

We present you with Alegent Creighton Health’s 2012 Community Benefit Report as an overview of our enduring service for the people of the Greater Omaha metropolitan area, northeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. We were privileged to provide $66 million in direct Community Benefit, care that focused healthcare access for struggling families and investments in services and programs to improve the health of our communities. This service is founded on our Mission that provides daily guidance for our actions which are reflected by our commitment to those with financial need and to preparing the next generation of healthcare providers.

During the last fiscal year, we experienced an increase of more than 2 percent in the cost of care for those who cannot pay for the cost of their care, and our investments to improve health in the community grew by 6.6 percent. We expect that this need to provide care and remove barriers for the poor and underserved will continue even with the advent of healthcare reform legislation.

Our Mission to care and to collaborate with other community partners is evidenced in our six-year commitment to the Live Well Omaha Kids initiative to impact childhood obesity, as well as our comprehensive 125-year service to those with mental illness. We have taken on new partnerships with leaders in North Omaha and Council Bluffs, with our colleges to prevent partner violence, and remain faithful to longstanding coalitions like Live Well Omaha, the Community Alliance and Hope Medical Coalition.
