Where can I have my blood drawn or drop off a specimen?

Alegent Creighton Health Laboratory Services offers primary and secondary patient service centers at many convenient metro Omaha and regional locations for specimen collection or drop off.

Patient Service Centers

We offer three Primary Patient Service Centers for your convenience. If you visit one of these centers, you will receive reference laboratory pricing.

Secondary Service Centers

As an alternative, you may visit one of the Secondary Service Centers located at hospital diagnostic centers to have your lab work drawn, or to drop off a specimen. Please bring with you a laboratory requisition. Click here for examples of laboratory requisitions accepted at the Primary and Secondary Service centers.

What items do I need to take to the Alegent Creighton Health Patient Service Center specimen collection lab?

You should bring with you the following information:
  • A laboratory requisition provided to you by your health care professional requesting laboratory testing. Click here to see examples of requisitions that can be submitted to the reference laboratory.
  • A current insurance card (Medicare, Private Insurance or HMO/PPO)
  • A photo ID (for example, a driver's license or state issued identification card) Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

If you are bringing a minor to a specimen collection lab and you are not that minor’s legal guardian, you may need to bring a notarized statement signed by a parent or legal guardian authorizing you to give permission for the collection and billing of the tests ordered by the minor's doctor.

Are appointments required?

Appointments are not required. Walk-ins are welcome. However, our locations are generally busiest from opening until 10:00 AM. If fasting is not required for your test, you may wish to come during off- peak hours.

What should I expect when I have a lab test?

Your role in the performance of a lab test is to provide a specimen that will be analyzed in a laboratory. The specimen you provide might be blood or urine or stool. You can be assured that Alegent staff will make the specimen collection process as safe, quick, and comfortable as possible while safeguarding your dignity and privacy. When visiting your physician, ask what test is being performed, why the test needs to be done, what you can expect the procedure to be like, when you can expect to hear about your test results, and how the test results will affect the course of your care.

Do I need to do anything special to prepare for a lab test?

Sometimes special preparation is required to improve the accuracy of a test. This may involve fasting (not eating any or certain foods) for several hours or even overnight, drinking more or less water than usual, or avoiding certain medications or vitamin and herbal supplements before the test. If you are delivering a specimen to the lab, there might be special instructions for transporting the specimen. Your physician should provide you with written instructions for preparing for your test. Follow those instructions exactly as they are written. If you are not certain if special preparation is required, or if you have questions about the instructions you were given, contact your physician’s office. If you did not follow the test preparation instructions you received from your physician, let the staff at the specimen collection lab know about this before your specimen is collected.

Who will report my test results to me?

The physician who ordered the test or a member of his or her office staff will contact you regarding your test results. If you contact the laboratory, we will be limited in what information we can provide to you regarding your lab tests. It is best if you contact your physician with any questions you may have.

How soon can I expect to receive my test results?

Depending on the complexity of the test being performed, it could take as little time as a few hours to as much as several days before your results are available. When visiting your physician, ask your physician how soon he or she expects your test results to be available and how long you should wait before contacting the office if you have not received any news about your test results. Can I order my own tests directly from Alegent Creighton Health Laboratory Services? Lab testing must be ordered by a licensed health care professional or authorized designee.
